Mid-Island Area

Mid-Island Neighborhoods

Mid-Island Staten Island is nestled between the vibrant North Shore and the quieter South Shore, stretching from the Staten Island Expressway down to the edge of the South Shore neighborhoods. This central section of the island offers a blend of suburban charm and urban convenience, making it a popular choice for families and commuters alike.

Before the 1960s, much of this region remained untouched, with large portions of land south of the expressway still undeveloped. That all changed with the opening of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in 1964, which connected Staten Island to Brooklyn and sparked a wave of residential growth. Over the next two decades, Mid-Island transformed into a thriving collection of neighborhoods, shaped by a surge of new housing, schools, and infrastructure.

Today, the Mid-Island continues to reflect that dynamic period of expansion, offering established communities, convenient transportation options, and access to parks, shopping, and recreation that appeal to longtime residents and newcomers alike.
